Review of Film Socialisme (2010) by Thomas G — 01 Jun 2011
God help you if you can't understand French, as the subtitles only approximately translate the dialog, and in fact distort the meaning of the dialog in some instances. The play between them and the dialog itself is occasionally interesting, although you can really hurt yourself by trying to understand every nuance as it flashes by.
After perhaps a half hour of being mystified, I had a clue as to what was happening, although I am still unable to say what the film was about. It was beautiful, intriguing, and obtuse. I'd like to see it two or three more times.
