Review of Eyeborgs (2009) by Jason M — 07 Jul 2010
This direct-to-video cautionary tale about our incessant need for security reforms taking over our personal freedoms had the potential for being a smart B-movie scifi film. Unfortunately, about half-way through it loses its momentum and turned into something that not even the Scyfy channel would have made.
The effects were practical - the "eyeborg" machines were shot using stop-motion! So if you're a fan of that, you might like it. But the 3rd Act finale's effects befuddled me. It's like they ran out of production money and threw the shots together out of glue and tape because they needed something.
These scenes would have been cool in the 80's. But this is 2010 for crying out loud. I give two stars because I like robots and the news caster (Megan Blake) was hot. Other than that - do not waste your time renting this.
Maybe wait for cable if you're really bored?
