Review of Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010) by Taylor S — 01 Apr 2011
Brilliant on so many levels. It's humorous to see this character, someone who is interesting and artistic in his own right, abandoning his own passions for a shallow, commercialized stab at others.
How he dupes the public, and himself, into thinking he's an artist. The film takes twist I didn't think it would take, got to give kudos to Banksy for throwing it together the way he did. It's infuriating, and hilarious at the same time.
Whether Mr. Brainwash is a hoax or not, either way, It's a really interesting portrait not only on street art, but on modern notions of fame and paths to success in general.
