Review of Exiled (1998) by J......... I — 25 Mar 2007
Johnny to's latest masterpiece, this is an incredible film noir. its a unique mix of Sergio Leone's old fashion classic westerns & john woo's modernistic action classics. the whole film is set to a dream like pace, with the greatest use of slow motion since john woo's hey day.
the action sequences are most definitely unique. ranging from an all out fire fight in a empty hospital waiting room (great use of slow motion here & not to mention massive destruction as they lay waste not only to their enemies but the restaurant itself) to highly intense sniper standoffs (this is the films highlight, a great change to the usual hectic gun fights that are the norm today) oh & the cast is basically a who's who of character actors & actresses from hong kong, which is a great thing.
anthony wong, nick cheung & francis ng are the standouts here, but the entire cast are very impressive indeed. whatever you do just check this classic out.
