Review of Everlasting Moments (2008) by Thomas L — 09 Mar 2009
A beautiful film, if a bit on the long side. Swedish filmmaker Jan Troell doesn't get much play in the States. This is only the third film of his that's been distributed here out of the eight or so that he's done, and I've never been disappointed.
Maria is a fascinating, complex character. The photography is terrific, both hers as well as Mr. Troell's. And you know who also does a great job? Danish actor Jesper Christensen, whom American audiences will mainly know as Mr.
White from the recent Bond films. Here he's the kindly Mr. Pederson, proprietor of the photo studio in Malmö. Talk about a total one-eighty for this guy. His platonic relationship with Maria is heartbreaking.
Who'd'a thunk it from Mr. White?
