Review of Empire of Silver (2009) by Xiangwei G — 09 Jun 2011
I really loved the movie from so many aspects: the acting of Aaron Kwok was superb, the cinematography was beautiful, the story was both educational and emotional, the director (first time director) found the right balance between melancholy and ration, business and family, good and bad, love and hate.
.. and all in the background of horrible wars. Some themes are heart-wrenching and remind me of my good fortune to be born in today's times and not 100 years ago! I can understand why some people find it difficult to follow or understand the movie fully.
This part of Chinese history and Sino-western relationship is not something that makes either Westerners or Chinese proud and people often choose to simply forget it. Well, Empire of Silver wants to remind you of that era that truly existed and haunted generations of people! There is so much to be remembered, celebrated and treasured! Make this your experience, at the cost of two Starbucks.
