Review of Elvis (1979) by Jason M — 18 Aug 2010
I haven't see this in a while but Carpenter's biopic of 'The King' is successfull for one reason...
Russell is Elvis!
Yes it may not be in depth with Elvis' last and darkest stage of his life but seeing the rise of THE KING and made with not that much money for TV shows how having a great team can produce a great product. Russell may not look like Elvis but he inhabits the character better than the millions of impersonators around the world.
To be honest the entore acting from everyone is universally very good and the period look though limited is very believeable. Had they had a huge budget and more time this might not have worked and the low budget quality is it's charm and would be start of a great relationship with Carpenter and Russell.
