Xavier Dolan as an actor is just as much commendable as Dolan the director. "Elephant Song" exhibits that. It's also a steady and suspenseful mind game played on the characters in the film and the audience alike.
Bruce Greenwood and Catherine Keener were excellent in their roles, adding just as much intrigue to the plot as does Dolan's character and circumstances.
