Review of Election (2005) by Coby F — 10 Dec 2011
Pretty much a perfect comedy. Most movies based off of books lose a certain something during the transition, but Election feels like a great movie first and an adaptation second thanks to an incredibly developed script and sly direction.
The casting is also ingenious, with Matthew Broderick playing the anti-thesis to his 80s teen film roles, and Reese Witherspoon showing a side to her that we don't often see today. It's a shame this film didn't match it's critical acclaim in box office receipts because teenagers would be doing a lot better watching this than drek like American Pie (which was released roughly a month after Election).
