Review of Dragon Tiger Gate (2006) by Marques M — 21 Jun 2007
A truly well-directed return to old-school wuxia films of the Venoms/Golden Harvest era that should not be overlooked by any fan of the genre. Donnie Yen proves himself yet again as an action director, and Yip Wai Shun shows enormous talent as a director in this movie that showcases as much technical achievements for the Hong Kong film industry as it does the true physical talent of it's cast (including 56 yr.
old Yuen Wah). To any that would criticize this movie I say take another look. The story is simple and painfully clear, the choreography is exciting and shines a spotlight on each of the stars, and the film is totally unpretentious.
Dragon Tiger Gate is a lot of fun, and I highly recommend it to anyone with a love and/or respect for martial arts films.
