A computer wants to have a child with Julie Christie? This is a seriously bad trip! Of course, the past 30 years haven't treated the movie's visuals at all kindly and in fact the plot now seems plain hilarious.
Still, Cammell is clearly a very skilled director and the whole thing is at the same time strangely creepy because it's so over-the-top. There is a certain edge to these 1970's sci-fi films - this had the same sort of menace as another of my favourites, Michael Crichton's "Westworld" (1973).
