Review of Dear Zindagi (2016) by U K — 24 Nov 2018
For someone who gave us Sridevi in a new avatar and a movie like English Vinglish that one can watch like a zillion times...Dear Zindagi was a bit disappointing. Yes, it is a conversation starter of sorts with regards to mental health and therapy, but the movie lacks depth.
I still remember the scene from English Vinglish where Sridevi leaves the NJ apartment all by herself for the first time and how she double checks the lock on the door. Now haven't we seen our moms do it?! Probably we have subconsciously picked it up too! That was the kind of attention to detail which is GauriS.
And yet (assumingly) with all her extensive research and homework, the only solution provided in Dear Zindagi was - start communicating with your parents! Really? Like I needed a movie to tell me that! It just trivialised mental health and the very purpose it set out to serve.
