Review of Deadhead Miles (1972) by Filmgrinder S — 30 Nov 2010
I was so excited to finally see this forgotten lost classic on Netflix. It was never released theatrically or on home video. The last time I saw it until now was in the late 80's on A&E late night.
It tells the story of an odd and possibly insane truck driver named Cooper who steals a semi cab and trailer from a family of thieves and takes to the open road unaware of where he is going or what he is hauling.
Along the way he picks up a hitchhiker and the movie becomes a buddy road picture with alot of eccentric characters they meet along the way. I am a big Alan Arkin fan and have no doubt that he would have received an Oscar nomination had this film been released.
Arkin perfected the perfectly quirky and strange 70's anti-hero. If you ever get a chance to see this film, don't miss it.
