Review of Daughter of the Nile (1987) by X. T — 20 Sep 2008
Hou's first urban film is also one of his most accessible. Filled with 80's pop songs and neon lights, the film follows the life of one of many of Hou's strong female protagonists and her gangster brother.
One thing that intrigued me as in other Hou films like in A City of Sadness was how casually violence appears when you don't expect it. I think it's due to the general causal slice of life approach of his films.
