Review of Dancer (2016) by Penny A — 01 Oct 2016
Poignant and moving tale of a tortured prodigy. The opening scene and music choice is spot on for the rest of the film. The dancing is breath-taking and utterly mesmerizing. This movie really captures the troubling journey of a talented spirit.....from youthful enthusiasm and exuberance, to artful mastery and flawless technique, to the question of personal fulfillment, peace and gratification. Its astonishing to witness the journey through intimate home movies, interviews with close friends, and the artist's own words and dance.
Is the film perfect? No. I felt some of the scenes were not placed properly, maybe the editing could have been better. But, it is an extraordinary very raw, personal, moving look at the toll genius can take on someone's spirit...... the dancing is perfection.
Very, very highly recommended!
