Review of Cook Up a Storm (2017) by Viet Phuong N — 30 Jul 2017
The "New Year" genre of Hong Kong cinema often pumps out films with mediocre quality but highly profitable. This film is still mediocre in many parts, from a lackluster cast (even Nicholas Tse proved to be a disappointing choice for the leading role), and a cheesy and nonsense plot.
Surprisingly enough, this film still entertained me greatly during my 10-hour-plus flight from South Korea to Germany, mostly thanks to the excellent cinematography of food and the cooking process. As far as "New Year" films go, this is one of the better ones.
