Review of Comrades, Almost a Love Story (1996) by Janet L — 02 Oct 2007
A beautiful, hauntingly romantic film (one of my all time favorite love stories) explores the magic and passion of a relationship destined to always return and reunite... to be lost and to be rediscovered like the ocean tides.
Deng Lijun's nostalgic, bittersweet, wistful songs linger like a lost time throughout the present, the perfect choice to capture an elusive yet magnetic connection. *sigh* Maggie Cheung is mysterious, intriguing and the onscreen chemistry tingles with the bittersweetness of an unfulfilled, repressed, silently powerful connection.
This film is sometimes called "Bittersweet like Honey.".
