Review of Comic Book: The Movie (2004) by Brandon T — 05 Jul 2009
Ok, so if you are like me (read: nerdy about comics and animation and movies and that sort of thing) you will enjoy this for the remarkable number of cameos that appear everywhere. One of the more exciting ones for me was when I noticed that Hamill's cameraman, Ricky, was played by Jess Harnell, who voiced Wakko in the Animaniacs, my favorite cartoon. (Harnell does a bit where he imitates the Beatles and it is incredibly obvious at that point that Wakko's voice is mostly an amalgamation of the Beatles' collective voices.) Also, it was nice to see Billy West in something other than his myriad voice over parts. He sounds in this film exactly like Fry from Futurama.
Too bad the movie is duller than dirt. Honestly, it plays more like the special feature for a DVD rather than an actual movie, which Miramax released it as. Seriously, unless you are like me and can enjoy this for the cameos, there will be no reason whatsoever for you to see this.
