Review of Columbus (2017) by Sara D — 04 Apr 2017
This film is a quiet beauty. The narrative is hard to explain to those who haven't seen it, but trust that it's about life, death and relationships even before it's about a small town in Indiana known for its mid-century architecture.
Director Kogonada frames everything with Japanese-like precision. While the film is still and gorgeous to look at (just take note of the colors), it's also funny and heart-breaking too. Haley Lu Richardson is effervescent and John Cho is handsome and brooding.
Columbus is the kind of film that you get a cup of tea or a glass of red wine and settle in. Bonus: The next day you'll look at some of the architecture of the buildings you drive by every day with a newfound appreciation.
