Review of Cleopatra Jones (1973) by Shane D — 24 Aug 2010
Not packing the same heat as its sisters â??Coffyâ?? or â??Foxy Brownâ??, Cleopatra Jones suffers mainly because of the fact it doesnâ??t star Pam Grier. That being said, the alternative is refreshing, but ultimately, Tamara Dobson pales in comparison.
Generally speaking, what makes a Blaxploitation film stand out from the rest is the music, the over-the-top violence and the boobsâ?¦which probably only the music scores a huge hit here. Still, it resides nicely as one of the more memorable of 70s black cinema icons, even if the film itself isnâ??t as strong as nostalgia would have it known.
Still worth watching if you are a lover of this genre/time of cinema.
