Review of Chimes at Midnight (1965) by Ian R — 19 Mar 2009
A lot of people seem to think that this was Welles' best film. I don't know if I'd go that far, but it is still quite good. I was not familiar with the plays that the story drew from, but I was still able to follow it for the most part.
Orson was HUGE in this, looking like Santa, but he was also quite good. The technical aspects were solid as always with major emphasis given to the battle sequence which holds up today as being one of the best of all time.
Now if only they could settle the rights issues and bring this out over here!
