Review of Cherish (2002) by Martin D — 15 May 2005
At least four characters in this movie are caricatures of real people, to the point where it's a distraction to Cherish's theme (losing your sense of self, blibbidy blah). That is the big problem I had with this movie.
Meanwhile, the little misadventures that Robbin Tunney's Zoe encounters are entertaining and even suspenseful; that, along with the several little funny moments throughout the running time, makes me kind of like Cherish in spite of myself.
Tim Blake Nelson wasn't as impressive as I hoped he would be, though the eroticism of some of the scenes involving him and Tunney still managed to be effective (though I credit a lot of that to the concept of opposites attracting, a cliche that I love).
This certainly wasn't the movie I had expected it to be, earning it some bonus kudos. It's still not as good as Paparazzi, a masterpiece also starring Robin Tunney. I love me some Bo Laramie.
