When arcades began getting popular in the late 1970's and 1980's, they ushered in a new level of championships, most of them teenage men who for a lack of a better word, were nerds. People like Billy Mitchell, Ted Rogers, Ben Gold and Darren Olsen were stars among their the video game enthusiasts who pumped mountains of quarters into Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Centipede.
Their time at the top was short-lived.
