Director Todd Haynes makes films that touch my heart. The first, "Far from Heaven," told the story of a failing marriage and an interracial relationship sweet in the '50's. With "Carol," we are again dealing with a.
failed marriage and a lesbian relationship. Still in the '50's, Cate Blanchett is a very affluent ex-wife and mother, and Roony Mara is an aspiring photographer trying to find herself. Beautifully filmed, scored, and the performances are rich and textured.
The ending is surprising and very forward thinking. One of my five best of the year!
