Review of Carmen Jones (1954) by Kevin M — 09 Nov 2007
Possibly my favorite movie ever! I just love seeing all of these beautiful, talented black people on screen in an update of a classic story. Performances are great all around. Would have gotten five stars if Otto Preminger hadn't found it necessary to dub the singing voice of Dorothy Dandridge with that of opera singer Roberta Peters.
Dandridge wasn't classically trained but I think the film would have worked just fine if Carmen Jones hadn't possessed an operatic voice.
