Review of Carmen Jones (1954) by Rakeem M — 09 May 2009
Dorothy Dandridge should be considered a national treasure! Her simmering performance in this film paved the way for so many others and it's a shame how many people don't know her name and legacy.
Carmen Jones is an American classic, it earns it's place among other great American musicals such as West Side Story and Singin' in the Rain. Despite having her singing voice dubbed (the voice you hear is that of Marilyn Horne), Dandridge manages to completely inhabit her role and captivate the audience.
The entire cast is great, but make no mistake, this film belongs to Dorothy Dandridge!
