Review of Cannibal (2013) by Wendy K — 26 Sep 2013
Oh man, this movie was really frustrating. The acting from both Antonio de la Torre and Olimpia Melinte were great, but I just felt the story really left me wanting more - and not in a good way. I felt like the script didn't give much of a story to it.
Not a lot of lines that left an impression on me, or were effective in relaying why/how the main character became a cannibal who hunts women. Why only women? I did enjoy watching the scenes where he was struggling with himself, but I felt that there was a lot that could be said.
He has a connection with his mother, but there just wasn't enough back story for me to feel any sort of sympathy for him. Hell, there were more lines about how the women got to where they were in the movie than about the actual cannibal.
Even if the cannibal man was supposed to be an antagonist, shouldn't we as the audience know how he got there? IDK. The story was a little too thin for my tastes.
