Review of Candy (2006) by Amanda G — 01 Aug 2008
Beautifully and simply made, painfully told, this movie truly shows the dangers of falling too deeply in love with drugs. However, I didn´t feel it was primarily a drug film (the theme was actually fairly subtle, but a clearly present force in the movie), as much as a very deep, heartwrenching love story.
I absolutely love this movie. Heath was incredible and completely transformed himself into the often hilarious slacker Danny, and Abbie Cornish is brutal but in a way quite relatable. I found alot of very infinite, beautiful moments in the film and it truly touched and broke my heart with its realism, especially now, with the passing of Heath.
The acting was great and very raw. Also have to say I loved the part of Geoffrey Rush; that relationship added alot of comic relief, which was welcomed in a somewhat grave movie. Loved it and highly recommend it.
