Review of Caged (1950) by Darryl C — 22 Oct 2008
This film may be camp to some, but I still get chills from it. eleanor parker is compelling as the innocent marie. her transformation from guiless innocent to hardened whore-to-be is amazing. agnes moorhead is her usual great self as the venerable warden of the women's prison and emerson is a fright as the bull dyke matron harper.
bringing up the end with the acting are betty garde, jan sterling, ellen corby, lee patrick and gertrude michael, just to name a few. the best surprises are van upp's acid-hot screenplay and dialogue and max steiner's sparse yet highly effective scoring.
