Review of Café Lumière (2004) by David W — 23 Sep 2007
Apart from "A Summer at Grandpa's", all of Hou's Chinese films have a sad tone to it...This is his first "foreign" film and the mood is 100% different...Like his recent French production, " Le Voyage Du Ballon Rouge", "Cafe Lumiere" is a celebration of life amidst the chaos the main character is going through.
..If his Chinese movies are about the emotional state of Taiwan, then his foreign films are about the director's lifeview.
