Review of Cabaret (1972) by Paul J — 27 Sep 2013
This tops my list for the greatest musical of all time. It's a dark character study (naturally made in the 70's) where the musical numbers work almost like a Greek chorus that punctuate key moments in the story.
The film also works perfectly as a dramatic film too. The characters are complex, flawed and completely endearing. Its anti-conformity message, truly classic songs, and Liza Minnelli's staggering performance, all help make this a captivating cinematic experience.
