Review of Burden of Dreams (1982) by Paul C — 19 Mar 2008
Pair this with "Fitzcaralodo," as this is about the making of that film. The story of the making of "Fitzcaraldo" is a fascinating as the movie itself is. It is fascinating to see how the making of the film parallels with the theme of the film.
It really is amazing that the film was ever finished. (My only quibble is that "Burden of Dreams" wraps up a little to quickly at the end. One feels like there is a bit more to the story.) Included on the disk is the short film "Werner Hertzog Eats His Shoe.
" Yes, that is exactly what it is about. Be sure to catch it for another side of Hertzog. :-) Another good film to pair this with is "Lost In La Mancha". Both films are about seemingly doomed film productions.
One is eventually completed; the other is not.
