Review of Bumblefuck, USA (2011) by Gaspar O — 30 Jul 2013
This is a little no budget film about what it's like to be gay in Hillbillyland, and why someone might feel the need to commit suicide because of it. Unfortunately, it's based on real events. Quite sadly, Hillbillyland is my own hometown.
It was pretty neat though, to watch a film and be able to say Hey, that's X or Look, there's Y. People who live in real places get to do that all the time, but those of us in Bumblefuck don't.
One of the main characters is a guy I've known my whole life, so that was pretty cool too. For what it is, I thought it was decent. It was a little bit messy, but the acting was good throughout and the technical stuff was OK.
Pretty solid effort for a first-time feature-length filmmaker, dealing with a tragic event from his past.
