Review of Bugsy Malone (1976) by Aviva D — 08 Sep 2007
Totally brilliant. Set in prohibition-era New York City, it's a pseudo-noir gangster film musical romantic comedy, and the entire cast is made up of children between the ages of 6 and 14. All the kids were amazing, especially Jodie Foster and Scott Baio who star in the film as the worldly nightclub singer Tallulah and the good-natured hero Bugsy, respectively.
Foster's so good, it's a little uncanny, actually. You know she's only 14 at the time of this film and yet she acts like she's 20--a very earnest, very mature 20. Amazing, but freaky.
