Review of Bug (2002) by Joseph H — 16 Apr 2012
An unbelievably intense film. Not a horror picture, the film is instead a journey into damaged and wounded psyches, a dissection of characters most films wouldn't bother with. It is also a study in claustrophobia, both psychological and spatial.
Friedkin directs with verve and intensity that belies his age and experience, feverishly unfolding a story with the manic obsession of his characters. The cast is brilliant, reaching levels of openness and raw passion that are as shocking and disquieting as anything Hollywood has ever sent our way.
