Review of Brigham City (2001) by David Z — 28 Jul 2008
Once in a while a piece of art comes along that you feel defines who you are, that you feel was made for you. "Brigham City" is that movie for me. While not the best of murder mysteries, Dutcher's film is probably the most powerfully spiritual film I've ever seen.
The performances are first-rate, Ken Glassing's cinematography is better than most major Hollywood films and Sam Cardon's score is terrific. But the true star here is Dutcher's writing. Every line matters and virtually every scene makes scriptural allusions ultimately leading up to a message about redemption in a fallen world that must be seen to believe.
This one gains power with each viewing.
