Review of Breathless (2009) by Simon L — 20 Jun 2008
When I first saw this film it felt so so so familiar... it was though I'd seen it many times before. I felt slightly unsettled by how close to home this film was hitting yet completely inspired and relieved that I had found it. I've been a student of Godard ever since and I haven't looked back since my first viewing of this wonderful film. It's beautifully conveyed ideas of communication, mortality, nothingness and everything are so wonderfully complimented by it's jazzy style, silky sleek sex appeal and it's two leads. Belmondo proves himself to be THE MAN in this.
"I don't know if I'm unhappy because I'm not free or if I'm not free because I'm unhappy".
"My ambition in life is to become immortal... and then disappear.".
"Do you mind if I piss in the sink?".
