One of Johnnie To's early signs of maturity. It was between his work in PTU and Election that he made Breaking News which shows To's starting to stray away from his earlier, cheesy works and working more toward darker, sharper territory.

Great editing and camera-work are abundant throughout, especially in the claustrophobic apartments. However, although To's direction is good here, the script is still retains unnecessary corny dialogue here and there.

Not his best work but it shows To's great potential and leads up to his best work, Election.
