Review of Borgman (2013) by Al M — 30 Dec 2014
Borgman features an amazing premise and an aesthetic that recalls Michael Haneke and Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth) but with its own weird vibe. A superbly directed and competently acted drama, Borgman never quite ascends to the transgressive heights that it promises.
I features numerous strange and disturbing moments, but it ultimately feels like it fizzles instead of climaxes. Still, it provides evidence of a director with talent who should be watched closely.
