Review of Blue Like Jazz (2012) by Spencer S — 05 Nov 2013
Blue Like Jazz is one more movie I find critics opinions utterly useless. Blue Like Jazz is a honest hard look at religion and the difficult truths in life. Donald Miller is one of the most impressive authors I have ever come across. His writing is true and honest. His words aren't always appealing but they are true. In every book I have read by him I end it with questions and a lot of time thinking.
This movie does a fantastic job of taking the memoir styled book and translating the hidden truth and beautiful philosophy into film. I have met Donald Miller and his struggles are laid out so straight forward I feel as though I had known him for years. His books give a screen into his life and because of that you feel like your having coffee with the guy, not watching a memoir of a hard time.
This movie is utterly phenomenal and a great film from every side.
