Review of Blades of Blood (2010) by Dean M — 10 Aug 2011
This Korean martial-arts film based on the graphic novel (Like the Moon Escaping from the Clouds) is kind strange and irritating when you find out the whole journey was basically for nothing. Almost everything about it is pointless and redundant. It has some okay sword fighting, but that is very few and nothing about this movie was really engrossing.
There is a lot to appreciate about Blades of Blood, like the costuming and art design, the score wasn't bad and I liked Jeong-min Hwang's turn as the blind swordsman, but very little of that has to do with the purpose of narrative film: storytelling. And I just don't think that part works in Blades of Blood with its lack of character development.
