Review of Bhoot (2003) by Sâmir B — 24 Oct 2007
Ram Gopal Varma's stab at horror, and he certainly doesn't disappoint with this. It may be made in the same vein as the recent horror films coming out of Asia, using the same techniques, but then why not, as long as it's a good story and is scary, which it most certainly is in parts.
The lead actress is really good in the role, and Rekha has a genuinely creepy air about her. Some people have said that this isn't all that scary, seen it all before etc., but if you consider that this is made for mainly Indian audiences, and the themes within the film, it is genuinely scary.
I can completely understand why some people had to leave the cinema when watching this (I heard that somewhere).
