Review of Betty (1992) by Silke B — 28 Jun 2010
What is it, that makes those french movies always look sexy to me? No matter how sad and boring the story is, I'm always expecting some hot scenes. Here it is Marie Trintignant, with her bedroom eyes and her heavy heart, that I suspected to lure the woman she went home with into bed. Well, I was so wrong. She is drinking and attending bars because of her tragic story. And what a story that is! Loss, loneliness, alkoholism, sex affairs...-I would say: just another weak character, just too afraid to escape it's miserable bourgeois life. Even as the story comes to an end, she is not able to make a choice and build a new life, she just steals the life from the other woman, her milieu, even her lover...
There is at least one good thing in this movie: the dialogues are very sophisticated and remote from everydays life.
