Review of Beneath Hill 60 (2010) by Matthew L — 09 Jan 2011
The remarkable true story of a platoon built up largely of Australian miners who were put together because of their expertise in tunneling and explosives. Told largely from the point of view of the commanding office Woodward, and interspersed with flashbacks of his life before the war.
A truly gripping tale in which you come to care for the characters and what happens to them, full of good natured Australian humour in the face of adversity. The films only let down is the shift in structure, used to create tension, when we begin to see things from the German tunnels about three quarters of the way through the film.
Other than that a highly recommended War Film.
