This was an incredibly visceral, often downright disturbing film to say the least. any film whose plot synopsis contains the sentence "god disemboweling himself" can't be too comforting. however, merhige is a great director; and, aesthetically, the stark black and white is wonderful and disquieting, though occasionally rather annoying.
