Review of Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest (2011) by Danny B — 19 Jan 2012
A must-see for any ATCQ fan, Rapaport paints a picture of his favorite group that matches the visual, tonal aspects that made these socially conscious rappers the cultural phenomenon they are to this day.
The core of the movie focuses on the often tumultuous relationship between Q-Tip and Phife Dawg during their rise to fame to present, but manages to trace the deep roots and love of hip-hop that brought these four men together.
A love letter to one of the greatest groups ever to emerge in hip-hop that will make hardcore fans more appreciative of the sheer force/brilliance exerted by ATCQ, as well as win over viewers new to their powerhouse sound.
