Review of Be Here to Love Me (2004) by Andrew S — 19 Aug 2008
A solid documentary about this cult singer-songwriter, Be Here to Love Me provides some intriguing glimpses into Van Zandt's wayfaring life on the road and his many brushes with death, including falling out of a fourth-story balcony just to see what it felt like and overdosing on glue.
While not as penetrating a film as the excellent "You're Gonna Miss Me" about fellow Texas psychonaut Roky Erickson, this is worth watching for the wonderful clips of Van Zandt hanging out at his trailer, shooting guns, and singing his melancholy, beautiful songs.
