Review of Barton Fink (1991) by Larkin R — 06 Jun 2010
Whenever I put in a new Coen Bros. film I expect something head and shoulders above most contemporary cinema. Yet again, they did not disappoint. There are very few films that after a 1st viewing I have the urge to immediately watch it again and this is one of them. As a film, it works solely on the plot which covers the surface of the story but I sense a far greater depth to this film to be uncovered in repeat viewings and I look forward to it. As usual, directing, acting and writing are top notch with fantastic performances from Turturro, Lerner and Goodman.
I have yet to see a Coen Bros. film that fails to engage me on one level or another. Each is distinct and each it truly entertaining. Hopefully the Coen Bros. streak continues as the Hudsucker Proxy is next on my viewing itinerary. I have no doubt that it will.
