Review of Ballistic Kiss (1998) by Stephen S — 29 Jul 2008
Donnie Yen injects some artistic flair into the proceedings, but often he takes it too far, employing too many tricks and gimmicks (Color to Black & White, Sped Up Motion, Slow Motion, Jazzy Editing, Etc.
) that it becomes too distracting and disorienting... However, the mere fact that he tried to infuse some artistry within his film already places it above all those conventional and derivative examples of the "Bullet Ballet" genre (aka "Gun-Fu" or "Heroic Bloodshed").
Still, nothing all that special... an interesting failure is probably the best description for it.
