Review of Away from Her (2007) by Joshua H — 31 Jul 2011
One of the best films of the past decade, Away From Her marks Sarah Polley's directorial debut and also marks Julie Christie's best performance to date. She is utterly convincing in her role and had I not known I was watching an actress, I would have thought I was really watching someone with Alzheimer's.
Polley's script is realistic as it portrays the relationship between the two protagonists. It has a mature quality to it that doesn't come from every 27-year-old filmmaker. Please see this underseen film as it will move you and make you fall in love with it.
